With a decade’s old history, the Geismar, Louisiana Nutrien location attributes some of its success to the good old adage of “location, location, location”. By being nestled along the Mississippi River, Nutrien Geismar is able to provide nitric acid and ammonia to neighboring facilities by way of various transportation sources. “We have logistical means of transporting by the railroad, tank truck loading, and barges and vessels on the river,” Gidget Stein, Senior HR Advisor at Geismar, said. The facility was originally built in 1967 with the ability to produce 900 metric tons per day (MTPD). After expansions, the location has grown to a productivity level of 1,400 MTPD.

It takes a well-oiled team to reach productivity levels like this, and Geismar’s team of 175 employees and 150 contractors works well to get the job done. One-third of the team members have over a decade of service under their belts, and ten of the employees have served for over 25 years. This kind of loyalty speaks volumes about the work culture at Geismar, and their hospitality is shared with their Nutrien-Trinidad implanted General Manager and other Trinidadians on the Engineering Team. “Our team culture is family oriented,” Stein says, “Because, in South Louisiana, everyone is family.”

These South Louisiana roots extend into other areas at Geismar besides hospitality as well. The Safety Team hosts an Annual Family Day Crawfish Boil that adds a little Cajun flavor and heritage into the strong-rooted family atmosphere. The team has also shared that flavor by participating in local festival cookoffs. In addition to spicing things up, Geismar has donated to many groups in their area as a way to show support to the people around them. Local schools, Future Farmers of America locally and statewide, local food banks, and the Louisiana Professional Fire Fighters Association are examples of organizations benefiting from the philanthropy and South Louisiana hospitality found at Geismar.

With a thick history that is rooted along the Mississippi River, the Geismar Nutrien location remains true to its heritage by employing a little South Louisiana family atmosphere and strong Cajun flavors into its team culture and work in the community.
