When people think of Augusta, Georgia…most people think of The Masters, the most famous golf tournament in the world. While the Masters Tournament and The Augusta National Golf Club bring tremendous notoriety to the Garden City, Augusta, Georgia has history that goes well beyond the golf tournament that’s played every April.
With a population nearing 600,000, Augusta is the 2nd largest city in Georgia. Augusta is larger than Savannah, Columbus and Macon.
Augusta is also the home to Fort Gordon army base. The most recent news has over 10,000 cyber security jobs moving to the area and therefore positioning Augusta as the new Cyber Security Hub in the country.
Famous Augustans include: The Godfather of Soul, James Brown; Economist Ben Bernanke; Baseball legend, Ty Cobb; Actor Laurence Fishburne; Singer Amy Grant; professional Wrestler, Hulk Hogan, and Charles Kelley of the country supergroup Lady Antebellum. Recently a new outdoor arena was built and was named after them. Concerts and special events can be seen at the “Lady A” amphitheater year-round.
