Each year, Nutrien hosts Saskatoon’s premier winter festival, WinterShines. WinterShines is a family event that has activities and performances for all ages. This event is truly something that brings people from all walks of life together and allows for the whole family to come out and experience the wonders of Saskatoon in the winter.
The Nutrien WinterShines festival is held in and around the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market in January and February of each year. One of the main attractions at the festival is the soup cook-off that is held inside the farmers’ market building. Round one of the cook-off is the Wide Open Chefs portion where home cooks, professional chefs, students, or anyone wanting to enter the competition can put their best soup to the test. Those with the most votes move on to round two and have the opportunity to compete in the #YXE Chefs competition, where members of our local professional chefs organization partner with Saskatoon media celebrities to judge the overall winner!
While the soup cook-off is one of the main organized events, there are a wide array of activities that are fun for the whole family. Some of those activities include a petting zoo, a giant snow park with games, ice sculptures, a scavenger hunt, and more within it, snowga (yoga in the snow, obviously), sleigh rides, a snowball throwing challenge, and any other fun snow activity you can think of.
Starting Saturday, January 27, 2019, bring your family and friends out to the Nurtien WinterShines festival. The event has something going on everyday for a week, with the festival ending on Sunday, February 4, so be sure to visit the website and plan a day of fun at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market. For more information about events, location, or the festival in general, visit the Nurtien WinterShines website.
