For the ninth year in a row, our Nutrien Aurora site participated in the annual Oriental Dragon Boat Races. Our enjoyably competitive “Fossil Floaters” brought home the third place prize this year and had times that beat their fastest times in 2017 when they won first place. The dragon boats that are used for the races are the world’s largest flat water racing canoes and are propelled by a crew of 20 people plus a drummer and a steersperson.  The race brings people together and creates teamwork like no other event while also promoting fun and fitness in all levels of racing!

Sponsorships pour in from all over the state to improve wellbeing, fitness, teamwork, and friendships. “The fundraising proceeds that are raised by teams for the event are turned back to the people of Pamlico County facilitating the various community groups in the festival, benefitting the groups and service clubs of the communities.”

The races have occurred each August since their inception and cover a two-day period. The Oriental Dragon Boat Races bring together family, friends, and coworkers through the inclusion of activities for children, parades, food, and live music. A great workout and a great cause, It’s an experience to be had by all!
