National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of this, this article is here to give you a basic breakdown of the month.

What is it?

National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is, essentially, a way to bring awareness to the benefits of getting out there and being physical. It began in 1983 by the President’s Council on Fitness as a way to promote fitness, and ultimately develop a better quality of life.

How can I participate?

Think of things to do after meals like going on a walk with family, or riding bikes around. Speak to your teachers, or professionals around you to see what ways you can get more physical. There are several simple ways to begin your involvement, and to begin becoming more physical yourself.

How can I spread awareness?

In today’s world raising awareness is one of the easiest things you can do. Spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media platforms. You could host an event for your community or neighborhood to help spread the message about National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

Remember to inform people that everyone should get at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. The benefits of doing this are huge, and it can be as simple as walking your dog, riding your bike, swimming, running, raking leaves, or just dancing around.

Now physical fitness and sports health is more than just moving around, in order to get the best benefits you need to also eat healthy, get enough sleep, and pay attention to how you spend your days. In order to get involved do some research about your community, local activities, local clubs you could join (kickball leagues are a great example), and remember to get moving! Physical fitness isn’t only important in May, but it’s a great time to get started. Good luck!
