Every April 7, the World Health Organization recognizes World Health Day. There is a theme each year, touching on relevant topics in public health. This year’s theme is “Building a Fairer, Healthier World.”
After such an intense year of the pandemic, the World Health Organization recognizes that inequalities in our society have been exposed more than ever before. Previously unaddressed issues of discrimination, poverty and access to healthcare are now more important to resolve than ever before.
To address these issues and build a fairer, healthier world, the World Health Organization is taking April 7 to call on leaders around the globe to address issues of inequality in their countries. They believe that every person around the world should have living and working conditions that are conducive to good health.
To observe World Health Day 2021 in your own life on April 7, take a look around your community for something you can do to help others. Is there a neglected area of town that gets littered? You could team up with the residents of a littered neighborhood for a cleanup! Or, if you have elderly or disabled neighbors, see if they want help with a project to fix up their house and make it more accessible for them. Fixing inequality worldwide will take big change, but one person can start by reaching out and helping others!
